Abstract A thermosetting resin which contains therein: (a) groups represented by the formula of Image (b) hydroxyl groups; and (c) quaternary ammonium salt groups which solubilize the resin in water; the blocked NCO groups being stable in the presence of water, but reactive with the hydroxyl groups at elevated temperatures. The resin is suitably used for cationic electrodeposition coating composition, which is especially low temperature curable, and provides coatings excellent in weatherability and corrosion resistance.
