6HW-5305 THERMOSTAT AND IRON ASSEMBLY ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an electric steam iron with an enclosed water tank in a shell under a handle and a steam generating soleplate with steam distributing ports, a pump is connected to the tank with a handle button for pump actuation to deliver water to the soleplate generator. The soleplate provided with an elevated threaded boss or mount for close support of a heat-responsive miniature adjustable thermostat to control the soleplate temperature. The thermostat includes a conductive intermediate stiff spring blade and a conductive upper less stiff spring blade with the blades stacked, supported, secured, and spaced apart by a bolt-thru-a-rivet connection in a conventional manner at one end with interposed insulators and having electrical circuit contacts on the conductive blades to make and break the heating circuit for the soleplate. To this conventional overall iron structure an improvement is provided that comprises a lower heat deformable blade that is completely separate and spaced from the stacked blades and disposed below the riveted stack. An insulator transmits the heat deformable blade movement to the upper blade to make and break the contacts. The deformable blade is disposed in close contact on the soleplate mount above the soleplate and completely below the shaped rivet head at the lower end of the stack. An aperture through the heat deformable blade inner and accommodated the bolt connection to the threaded mount to secure the parts to the threaded mount. The interposed heat deformable separate blade is provided with a conforming shaped rim at its apertured end, preferably in a square fitting, for nesting alignment of the deformable blade with the 6HW-5305 stack. The arrangement is such that the separate deformable blade is secured directly on the soleplate mount for fast heat response from the soleplate to eliminate the heat insulation effect by the rivet to reduce overshoot from extreme sensitivity of the miniature thermostat.
