This invention relates to a rectangular roofing shingle defined as a shingle unit (I) having front (9) and rear (10) stepped edges and having an undivided headlap portion (2) and a butt portion (3) horizontally divided into at least 4 dissimilarly shaped, space-separated, snaggle-toothed tabs (4-7) which are integral with, and extend from the bottom portion of said headlap and which are recessed from the side edges of said headlap; said shingle unit, having an overall length in inches approximately equal to from about 9 to about 12 inches multiplied by the number of tabs, is secured to a reinforcement strip (22) which is positioned to underlay said tabs, and from about 0.75 to about 5 inches of said adjoining headlap and which has a length equal to the overall length of the shingle unit.
Cette invention concerne un bardeau de toiture rectangulaire se présentant sous forme d'une unité de bardeau (1) qui possède des bords étagés avant (9) et arrière (10), ainsi qu'une partie de chevauchement avant (2) non divisée et une partie butée (3). Cette partie butée se divise horizontalement en au moins quatre languettes (4-7) d'imbrication intégrales qui sont séparées par des espaces et possèdent des formes différentes. Ces languettes dépassent de la partie fond du chevauchement avant, et sont en retrait par rapport aux bords latéraux de ce chevauchement. Cette unité de bardeau possède une longueur en pouces qui est à peu près égale à une longueur de 9 à 12 pouces multipliée par le nombre de languettes. L'unité de bardeau est fixée à une bande de renfort (22) sous-jacente aux languettes, laquelle bande est elle-même située à une distance d'environ 0,75 à 5 pouces du chevauchement venant s'adjoindre, et possède une longueur égale à la longueur totale de l'unité de bardeau.
