A concentrated liquid soap composition that readily increases in viscosity upon dilution with water, the concentrated liquid soap composition containing an amine oxide surfactant or mixture thereof having the general formula R1R2 R3N.rArr.O, where R1 and R2 are the same or different and are selected from methyl or ethyl and R3 is a straight chain saturated or unsaturated alkyl group having from about 6-24 carbon atoms; an anionic surfactant or mixture thereof; an electrolyte; water; and a buffering agent, sufficient to maintain the pH of the composition between about 8 and about 10.
