An optical waveguide fiber having a thin carbon coat (4) over the clad glass layer (2) is disclosed. The carbon coated waveguide shows superior dynamic fatigue resistance, improved adhesion of a polymer overcoat (6) in environmental testing, excellent attenuation stability in environmental testing, excellent attenuation stability in environmental testing, and easy colorability.

L'invention concerne une fibre de guide d'ondes optiques comportant une couche (4) de carbone mince sur la couche de verre (2) de la gaine. Le guide d'ondes enrobé de carbone fait preuve d'une résistance élevée à la fatigue dynamique, d'une adhérence améliorée à une couche de finition polymère (6) aux conditions d'essais climatiques, d'une excellente stabilité de l'atténuation aux conditions d'essais climatiques, et d'une bonne aptitude à la coloration.
