ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Thio-bis-(hydrocarbyl-substituted diacids or anhydrides) when esterified with a polyol, such as pentaerythritol or polypentaerythritol, without acid catalysts form thio-bis-(hydrocarbyl diacid esters) which can be characterized in part, as macrocyclic and/or macrocylic-like structures and are useful as stable additives in oil compositions, e.g. as varnish- inihibiting dispersants for lubricating oils and fuels.
