101 ABSTRACT Thioformamide derivatives of the formula: Image (I) wherein: R represents alkyl; A represents an optionally substituted phenyl or heteroaromatic group; R1 represents hydrogen, alkyl, cyano, carboxyl, formyl, carbamoyl, alkoxycarbonyl or a group -(CH2)nOR2, (CH2)nSR2, -(CH2)nN(R2)2, -CH=CHR3, -CH=NOR4, -COMHR5, or -COR6; R2 represents hydrogen, alkyl, alkanoyl, aryl, aryl(CH2)n- or arylCO-, or, when attached to nitrogen, two R2 groups may together represent alkylene; R3 represents hydrogen; alkyl, alkanoyl, carboxyl, carbamoyl, cyano, aryl, arylCO-, aryl(CH2)n-, or aryl (CH2)n CO-; R4 represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, aryl(CH2)n-, optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, amino or carbamoyl N,N-disubstituted by alkylene; R5 represents alkyl, aryl, or aryl(CH2)n- or an amino acid residue; R6 represents alkyl, aryl, or aryl(CH2)n-; .... represents a single or double bond provided that when R1 is formyl Image represents a double bond; Y represents ethylene, methylene or a direct bond; and n is 1 to 6; and salts thereof possess useful pharmacological properties.
