ABSTRACT Thixotropic resins are prepared by first reacting a drying oil-modified alkyd resin of high hydroxyl value with a defined polyamide, and thereafter reacting the product with a small proportion of a polyisocyanate preferably of function- ality greater than 2. The resins can be blended with other alkyd resins having Newtonian rheology to produce coating compositions which have thixotropic properties resistant to change at high ambient temperatures.
