An apparatus for removing a thread tail (34) from a hole (26) in a presser foot (28) on a quilting machine. The apparatus has an orifice providing a stream of pressurized air that applies a force against a section of the thread tail (34) extending between the needle and the hole (26) in the presser foot (28). The pressurized air stream pulls the thread tail (34) through the hole (26) in the presser foot (28) and gathers the thread tail (34) on an upper side of the presser foot (28). In another embodiment, the present invention includes a method of automatically applying a generally transverse force to a portion of the thread tail (34) extending between the needle and the hole (26) in the presser foot (28) for a duration sufficient to remove the thread tail (34) from the hole (26) in the presser foot (28).

Cette invention concerne un dispositif permettant d'extraire une extr~mit~ de fil (34) du trou (26) d'un pied presseur (28) sur une machine ~ matelasser. Le dispositif comporte un orifice calibr~ par lequel passe un flux d'air sous pression qui applique une force contre une partie de l'extr~mit~ du fil (34) comprise entre l'aiguille et le trou (26) dans le pied presseur (28). Le flux d'air sous pression fait passer l'extr~mit~ de fil (34) au travers du trou (26) dans le pied presseur (28) et r~cup­re cette extr~mit~ (34) sur le cÙt~ sup~rieur dudit pied. Une autre m~thode selon l'invention consiste ~ appliquer automatiquement une force g~n~ralement transversale sur une partie de l'extr~mit~ de fil (34)comprise entre l'aiguille et le trou (26) du pied presseur (28), ceci pendant un laps de temps suffisant pour extraire l'extr~mit~ (34) du trou (26) dans le pied presseur (28).
