A three-dimensional image is formed by superposing panels of semitransparent or transparent material. Given faces of the panels are carved or molded to form in the semitransparent or transparent material reliefs having different depths in the three- dimensional image. The panels are then assembled with each relief placed at the corresponding depth whereby the reliefs complement each other to form the three- dimensional image. The reliefs may be frosted.
