ABSTRACT A three-plate sliding gate nozzle valve has an upper fixed plate, a lower fixed plate and an intermediate sliding plate, each having a discharge passage, which passages are aligned when the valve is open. The discharge opening of the lower fixed plate is in the form of a slot, at least the upstream portion of which has a length in the direction of movement of the sliding plate at least twice that of the passage in the sliding plate.
