A medicine for the prevention of, treatments for, and alleviation of diseases in which thrombopoetin receptor activation is effective. It is a thrombopoetin receptor activator represented by the formula (1): (1) wherein R1 and R3 each independently means hydrogen, SO3H, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkylcarbonyl, or C6-18 arylcarbonyl (the C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkylcarbonyl, and C6-18 arylcarbonyl may be optionally substituted by halogeno, hydroxy, C2-6 alkenyl, C1-6 alkoxy, C1- 6 alkoxycarbonyl, C6-18 aryl, 2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl, 2-furanyl, 3- furanyl, 2-thienyl, 3-thienyl, or NR9R10); and R2, R4, and Ra each independently means hydrogen, hydroxy, or C1-6 alkoxy.
