Abstract A throughflow cooler comprising a heat exchanger (3) disposed in a vessel (1) filled with a cooling fluid (2) comprises a cooling apparatus (5,6,7) for cooling the cooling fluid (2) and a circula- ting apparatus (8) which is driven by a motor (9) through a motor shaft (10) and which moves the cooling fluid (2) in the vessel. In such throughflow coolers, the life of the motor is limited by the formation of rust in the bearing (15) and on the motor shaft (10). To increase the life, a heating apparatus is provided which is actuated by a control apparatus (17) and heats the motor shaft and/or at least one motor shaft bearing (15). Single figure.
