A thrust reverser system that includes a pass-through torque activated brake assembly (410) that limits the torque applied in portions of the thrust reverser system drive train. The brake assembly (410) includes two plates (602, 604) that are coupled together with a torsion spring (608). When a predetermined torque is applied to the torsion spring (608), the torsion spring (608) displaces the plates (602, 604) from one another. Balls (606) that are positioned in cammed grooves (618, 628) in each of the plates (602, 604) causes the plates to translate away from one another and contact brake surfaces (816, 818) to thereby limit the torque in the drive train.
