ABSTRACT THYLAKOID TARGETING SEQUENCE A chimaeric gene expressible in plant cells encodes (a) the pre-sequence of the 33kDa protein of the photosynthetic oxygen-evolving complex of a photosynthetic organism or a modified version of the said pre-sequence which is capable of targeting a passenger protein into the thylakoid lumen of a chloroplast, fused to (b) a heterologous passenger protein. The heterologous passenger protein can therefore be delivered into the thylakoid lumen of chloroplasts in plant cells.
