A tidal power apparatus comprises a moored pontoon (1) having a duct (2) therethrough opening at opposed ends of the pontoon. The duct has a vertical axis rotor (3) therein driving an electrical generator (6). A deflector vane (8) is located in the duct at each end thereof, each deflector vane being mounted to pivot about a vertical axis between an active position, in which the deflector vane deflects water flow to one side of the rotor axis to cause rotation of the rotor, and an inactive position substantially aligned with the water flow from the turbine.

L'invention concerne un appareil de centrale marémotrice comprenant un ponton amarré (1) traversé par un conduit (2) ouvert aux extrémités opposées du ponton. Le conduit contient un rotor (3) d'axe vertical qui entraîne un générateur électrique (6). Une pale de déflecteur (8) est située dans le conduit à chacune de ses extrémités, et chaque pale de déflecteur peut pivoter autour d'un axe vertical entre une position active, dans laquelle la pale de déflecteur dévie l'écoulement d'eau vers un côté de l'axe du rotor pour entraîner ainsi la rotation du rotor, et une position inactive sensiblement alignée avec l'écoulement d'eau provenant de la turbine.
