ABSTRACT A tilt latch for a window sash comprises a base member 26 mountable on a sash and a slide member 28 disposed for sliding movement in a channel formed in the base member and urged by a spring 30 toward a forward limiting position in which a nose 34 at the forward end of the slide member engages a window frame 12 to prevent the sash 10 from tilting out of the frame 12. A downward projection 74 formed on the rear end portion of the slide member abuts the rear end edge of the base member to arrest movement of the slide member at the extended position, but this rear end portion of the slide member is dimensioned for upward flexing to enable the projection 74 to be lifted manually out of such abutment so that the slide member can be moved beyond said forward limiting position.
