The invention concerns a tilting metallurgical unit for smelting metallic material and for the subsequent treatment of the metal melt. The unit can tilt from an initial position in a positive tilt direction (8) about a tilting axis (7) and comprises a smelting vessel (1) with a furnace hearth (12) for the metal melt (13) and a treatment vessel (2) positioned at the side of the smelting vessel and used for the metallurgical treatment of the metal melt. The metal melt (13) which flows from the smelting vessel (1) when the unit is tilted in the positive tilting direction (8) can be transferred to the treatment vessel (2) via a channel (26) which connects the furnace hearth of the smelting vessel (1) to the receiving chamber of the treatment vessel (2).
