Carrier for elongated goods, generally referred to as a timber hound, which carrier is arranged to be mounted e.g. under a wagon bridge of a vehicle, and which is formed as a elongated box having means for connection of vertical struts (3) and the ends thereof and having a strapping means (4) mounted inside the elongated timber hound box for making it possible to strap a bundle of elongated goods on the timber hound, which strapping means in the form of a wire (6) extending from one end of the timber hound and be connected at the opposite end of the timber hound and can be tightened thereon using an axial motor, in which said tightening means is in the form of ratchet type tightening means (12, 14) comprising a pair of spaced rails (14) having ratchet grooves (17) at the upper surface thereof, and a movable strapping part (12) which is connected to an active part (15) of the axial motor and which is slidable on top of said rails (14) and having latch pins (22) which can engage any one of the successive ratchet grooves (17) of the rails (14), the tightening wire (6) being connected to said movable strapping part (12), whereby the wire gets tightened by actuating the axial motor (13).
