ABSTRACT A time delay switch comprising an oil dash pot containing a piston of magnetic-flux-responsive substance disposed in an oil-filled cylinder. A magnetic circuit is constituted by a permanent magnet mechanically linked to a switch toggle and magnetically coupled to said piston, a fixed magnetic yoke, a moving magnetic yoke and an armature movable in reaction to a change of magnetic flux due to movement of the piston. A moving contact plate is linked to said armature and a fixed contact plate is located to contact said moving contact plate. These components are housed in a housing made of an insulating resin and having a first relatively deep and a second relatively shallow part, said first part and said second parts being integrally connected with each other. The first part contains said oil dash pot fixed to its bottom region and the toggle is fulcrumed on an upper region of said first part and said first part also contains the moving contact plate and the fixed contact plate of said time delay switch. The second part contains terminals to which electric wires are to be connected at its lower region for placing the switch in an electric circuit. The construction allows the switch to be made sufficiently compact to fit a standard wall box without compromising the desired properties of the housing.
