ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A time division digital switching network in which first- order digital data channels transmit words including a given bit number, have first rates different from, but multiple of, one another, and are time-multiplexed into second-order channels having a second predetermined rate and each comprising a com- bination of first-order channels at different rates ri. In each combination, xi words are at the rate xi and the quantity .SIGMA. rixi defines a multiframe. The second-order channels are time-multiplexed into a third-order channel having a third predetermined rate. In the digital switching unit of the net- work, the first-order channel words multiplexed into the third- order channel are grouped at an address whose first part de- pends upon the second-order channel they occupy in the third- order channel and whose second part is derived from the word number in the multiframe corresponding to a given first-order channel according to the multiplexing schemes. The bits of a given rank of the second-order channel words form a pseudorandom sequence and, therefore, the bits of a give rank of the third- order channel words form interleaved sequences. The switching unit includes means for separating these interleaved sequences and for deducing from the bits composing them the second address part of the words and from the latter the addresses of the first- order channels.
