For use in time-limiting a request for information from a client to a resource, a timeout object, a method of operating the same and a real-time process control system employing the timeout object or the method. In one embodiment, the timeout object includes: (1) a client interface that receives, from the client, the request and a time-based parameter and (2) a resource interface that forwards the request to the resource and waits for the information an amount of time that is a function of the time-based parameter, the client interface: (2a) returning the information to the client if the timeout object receives the information within the amount of time and (2b) returning a timeout indicator to the client if the timeout object fails to receive the information within the amount of time.

Sont utiles dans la limitation temporelle d'une demande d'informations entre un client et une ressource, un objet de temporisation, un procédé de commande de celui-ci ainsi qu'un système de commande de processus en temps réel mettant en oeuvre cet objet de temporisation ou ce procédé. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'objet de temporisation comprend: (1) une interface client recevant du client la demande d'informations et un paramètre temporel, et (2) une interface de ressource acheminant la demande vers la ressource et attendant lesdites informations pendant une certaine période, laquelle est fonction du paramètre temporel. L'interface client, soit (2a) renvoie les informations au client si l'objet de temporisation reçoit celles-ci pendant ladite période, soit (2b) renvoie un indicateur de temporisation au client si l'objet de temporisation n'a pas réussi à recevoir les informations pendant ladite période.
