6446-359 ABSTRACT A timing phase control apparatus has parallel receiving circuits each having a demodulator which demodulates a received signal and an equalizer which equalizes the demodulated signal and produces a timing phase deviation signal. Power measuring circuitry is provided for each of the predetermined ones of the receiving circuits for measuring a power signal of the demodulated signal. A selecting circuit selects the timing phase deviation signal from the equalizer in the receiving circuit where the power signal is greater than a predetermined value. A timing control circuit is provided for controlling the sampling timing of the received signal based upon the timing phase deviation signal selected by the selecting circuit. The invention permits the use of the timing phase deviation value or values of the channel or channels which have been subjected to little or no degradation, thereby properly controlling the sampling frequency.
