A method and apparatus are disclosed for determining the boundaries of guard intervals of data symbols being received in a coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexed signal. Temporal samples separated by an interval of an active interval of a data symbol are associated in pairs, and difference signals obtained. The dispersion of a first comparison block of difference signals is determined, and compared to the dispersion of a second comparison block of difference signals, the second comparison block being displaced from the first comparison block by n samples. An F ratio is calculated for the dispersions of the two blocks. F ratios are iterated in a succession of comparison blocks, and a signal representing the F ratios subjected to peak detection. The peaks represent the boundaries of the symbol's guard interval. This information is utilized in synchronizing an FFT window for subsequent signal reconstruction.

L'invention est constituée par un méthode et un appareil servant à déterminer les limites des intervalles de garde des symboles de données reçus dans un signal à multiplexage fréquentiel codé orthogonalement. Des échantillons temporels séparés par un intervalle faisant partie d'un intervalle actif d'un symbole de données sont associés par paires et des signaux de différence sont obtenus. La dispersion d'un premier bloc de comparaison de signaux de différence est déterminée et comparée à celle d'un second bloc de comparaison de signaux de différence, ce second bloc étant déplacé de n blocs par rapport au premier. Le rapport F des dispersions des deux blocs est calculé. Les rapports F sont itérés dans une suite de blocs de comparaison et un signal les représentant est soumis à une détection de crêtes. Les crêtes correspondent aux limites de l'intervalle de garde du symbole. Cette information est utilisée dans la synchronisation d'une fenêtre de transformation de Fourier rapide en vue d'une reconstruction ultérieure du signal.
