L'invention concerne une composition tinctoriale pour fibres kératiniques, contenant dans un milieu approprié pour la teinture au moins un précurseur de colorant d'oxydation du type para en association avec au moins un coupleur hétérocyclique répondant à la formule: (voir formula I) dans laquelle OH occupe les positions 6 ou 7 du noyau aromatique et R1 représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un radical alkyle en C1-C4; R2 ou R3, identiques ou différents, désignent un atome d'hydrogène, un radical alkyle inférieur en C1-C4, un radical carboxyle ou un radical alcoxy C1-C4 carbonyle, ou l'un de ses sels. La composition selon l'invention permet de teindre les cheveux en une coloration ayant une bonne résistance à la lumière, aux lavages, aux intempéries et à la transpiration.
