ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tire-changing machine has a framework supporting a wheel rim receiving platform adapted to receive and secure thereon a wheel rim having a drop center. Upper and lower bead breaker mechanisms include upper and lower bead breaker shoes supported by the framework, the upper and lower shoes being connected to upper and lower bead breaker levers respectively so that a tire may be engaged by the shoes and broken away from the rim. A lower bead breaker shoe actuator includes a cylinder together with a piston disposed for longitudinal movement therein, the lower actuator piston being coupled to the lower bead breaker lever so that the lower shoe is driven toward and away from the rim drop center. An upper bead breaker shoe actuator includes a cylinder together with a piston disposed for longitudinal movement therein, the upper actuator piston being coupled to the upper bead breaker lever so that the upper shoe is driven toward and away from the rim drop center. The lower actuator cylinder is coupled to the upper actuator cylinder and the speed of movement of the upper and lower actuator pistons is limited.
