TIRE CORRECTION SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for and method of reducing vibrations trans- mitted to a vehicle by its tire and wheel assemblies, each of which includes an inflated tire with a peripheral tread mounted on a wheel rim, where the method comprises the steps of detecting the loaded rad- ial runout in the tread of the tire on the wheel and tire assembly while it is off the vehicle and rotating about its effective axis of rotation on the vehicle, removing portions of the tire tread whose de- tected loaded radial runout exceed a prescribed range until the de- tected loaded radial runout is within the prescribed range, subse- quently balancing the tire and wheel assembly, and mounting the tire and wheel assembly on the vehicle. The tire and wheel assembly is usually mounted on an adapter interchangeable between a tire buffing machine which detects the loaded radial runout and removes portions of the tire tread to reduce the loaded radial runout, and a tire balancing mach- ine which balances the tire and wheel assembly.
