ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of making pneumatic tires substantially reduces or eliminates sidewall indentations in the inflated tire. An overlapping splice is made between the ends of each layer of ply fabric to form the generally annular shape of the ply layer. A portion of one end of the ply layer is removed from the area in which the beads are placed to form an abutting splice in this area. The single layer of ply fabric beneath the beads prevents undertensioning of the ply cords in the reinforced overlapped layer which otherwise would result in sidewall indentations.
