2031496 9012676 PCTABS00002 Apparatus for cutting tires circumferentially employs a horizontal surface (14) on which a tire (12) is placed on its side. A roller (18) enters the tire to engage the inside surface (92) of the tread portion (76) and push its outer surface (94) against a drive wheel (78). The drive wheel includes a circumferential, projecting cutting blade (74) which penetrates the tread portion of the tire and enters a slot (30) in the roller. When the drive wheel is rotated the tire is also rotated and the blade forms a circumferential cut (96) around the tire.
