A reinforced layer of elastomer for reinforcement of elastomeric articles having at least one layer of cord spaced in a direction lateral to the direction of reinforcement, each cord having a diameter in the range of 0.30 mm to 1.6 mm and formed in a single step where all its filaments have the same lay direction, each cord made of steel having a cord break load (CBL) defined by the expression: CBL = N (20.4D2 - 352.6D3) CE where CE is the cord efficiency, D is the filament diameter in MM and N is the number of filaments in each cord.
