A tissue anchor (10) includes an anchor member (14) formed from a generally flexible material. An activation member, which may be a tensioning member (12), causes proximal and distal end portions (14a, 14b) of the anchor member (14) to move toward each other into a shortened configuration suitable for anchoring against the tissue (20). The tissue anchor (10) can optionally be deployed and activated using a catheter device (50).
