A process for producing tissue webs is disclosed. More particularly, the present invention is directed to an improved process for drying webs. According to the present invention, a formed web still containing a substantial amount of moisture is passed through a nip formed between a press roll (43) and a heated drum (46). When passed through the nip, the web is placed on a porous fabric (40). The web is then carried through the nip for a period of time and subjected to temperatures and pressures sufficient to create a steam front which travels through the web and expels a significant amount of moisture from the web through the porous fabric.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de bandes de papier-linge et, notamment, un procédé amélioré de séchage de bandes, qui consiste à faire passer une bande formée contenant encore une certaine quantité d'humidité, dans la ligne de contact entre un rouleau de presse (43) et un tambour chauffé (46). Lorsqu'elle passe dans ladite ligne de contact, la bande est placée sur un tissu poreux (40). La bande est ensuite passée dans ladite ligne pendant un certain temps et est exposée à des températures et à des pressions suffisantes pour qu'un front de vapeur circulant à travers la bande soit créé et expulse une quantité sensible d'humidité de celle-ci, à travers le tissu poreux.
