A separator material effective for decreasing the weight of fuel cells is provided which is lightweight, has good corrosion resistance, and exhibits a minimized increase in electrical contact resistance during use for a long period. Titanium or a titanium alloy is prepared by melting so as to contain not greater than mass% B, thereby forming a titanium-based material in which fine TiB-type boride particles are precipitated and dispersed. The material is then etched in an aqueous acidic solution such that some of the TiB-type boride particles are exposed on the surface through the passive film formed thereon.
Ce matériau de séparateur léger est utile pour la réduction du poids d'une pile à combustible et présente une excellente résistance à la corrosion, par le biais duquel l'augmentation de la résistance électrique de contact est supprimée, même après une longue période d'utilisation. Le titane ou l'alliage de titane, contenant un maximum de 5 % en masse de B, est produit à l'aide d'un processus de fusion, permettant d'obtenir un matériau à base de titane où les particules de borure de TiB fines sont précipitées et dispersées. Ce matériau est soumis à un traitement de corrosion dans une solution aqueuse acide, afin d'exposer une partie des particules de borure de TiB à la surface d'une pellicule de passivation.
