A method is provided for protecting couplings including fasteners, fittings, brackets and the like from corrosion. The couplings are of the type for mounting a component to a supporting surface in a fixed relation thereto such that the couplings are not subject to wear due to the lack of any relative movement between couplings and the respective components being mounted. The couplings generally include a retaining surface for engaging the component in a fixed relation and a mounting surface for engaging the supporting surface in fixed relation such that the component is mounted to the supporting surface when assembled. Substantially the entire outer surface of the couplings are coated with titanium nitrate which provides a durable surface to the couplings for resisting corrosion.
