The present invention provides a novel process for preparing a catalyst, preferably free of electron donor, useful in gas phase polymerization of olefins having a broad polydispersity. The catalyst is prepared by contacting a dehydrated silica support with a first alkylaluminum compound, a source of titanium, a second alkylaluminum compound and an alkylmagnesium compound, and an organic chloride.
