In matters of finding the direction from one place to another having a very long distance in between them, we can use several methods including compasses, maps and our senses. But the directions found in this manner will be approximate ones only, and may not give the true direction because of the earth's spherical shape. In such a situation, we can use a very reliable object, the sun, for the purpose of finding the direction as accurately as we want by having calculated the times of observation related to the corresponding dates, knowing the latitudes and longitudes of the places concerned.
