ABSTRACT A tobacco cartridge having a generally cylindrical tobacco charge surrounded by a sleeve made of smokable but not drawable material. At its rear end, the cartridge continues as a cylindrical hollow section, which is made of a tubular material of relatively higher stiffness and which can thus be securely gripped when it is desired to transfer the tobacco charge from the tobacco cartridge to a sleeve made of cigarette paper. A device particularly suited for the transfer of the tobacco charge from such a cartridge to a cigarette paper sleeve provided with a filter has a rod-like counter support having a somewhat narrower diameter than the inner diameter of the sleeve. This countersupport is held vertically in a stand, and an abutment positioned coaxially relative to the support for the filter element of the cigarette paper sleeve is arranged rigidly on a bracket laterally overlapping the rod-like support, which if necessary is attached to the stand.
