The invention relates to a method for cutting tobacco in which a tobacco cake (1) is fed to a mouthpiece (5) from which it emerges, after which it is cut by means of a knife cutter (6, 7), more particularly, a rotating knife drum, wherein in at least one cutting action a substantially wider section is severed from the tobacco cake (1) than in other cutting actions. The invention also relates to an apparatus for implementing the method.
