A lock for a toilet compartment having a door member and a door stile member, the lock having a latch for mounting on one of the members and a keeper for mounting on the other of the members, the latch including a mounting plate and a bar carried on the mounting plate for engagement with the keeper, and the keeper having first and second latch receiving members spaced from each other. In the keeper, the latch receiving members have parallel slots, with one of the latch receiving members projecting laterally beyond the other, so that the keeper can be used for right-hand and left-hand and in-swing and out-swing installations. In the preferred embodiment each of the slots includes upper and lower portions spaced from each other, and each of the slots has open ends providing lift-to-open capability for the door for emergency access to the toilet compartment.
