A holder for toilet paper roll has a mount for mounting the holder on a fixed surface such as a wall. A roll carrier supports the roll for dispensing of the paper. The carrier is mounted on the mounting means by a support that allows the variable positioning of the carrier with respect to the mounting means against the wall. In one embodiment, the support is a telescopic tube arrangement. In a second embodiment, the support is a pantograph linkage. In the third embodiment, the support is an elongate flexible element.
