TONER LOADING FOR TOUCHDOWN DONOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for loading a donor member of a touchdown de- velopment system is provided wherein a two component developer comprising toner particles and ferromagnetic carrier particles is attracted to a magnetic brush which in turn presents the developer to a donor member to develop the same with toner particles. The toner particles on the donor member are then presented to an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor surface. In order to form as uniform a toner layer as possible on the donor member the size distribution of the carrier particles is such that at least 85%, preferably 95%, of all of the particles, by volume, are less than about 50 microns diameter and preferably between 10 and 50 microns. Utilizing carrier particles of this size avoids signi- ficant carrier bead tracks in the toner layer which could result in partial or full character loss during development of the latent image.
