A device for separating a tire bead from a rim upon which the tire is mounted, comprising a first engagement means adapted to releasably engage a first side of the rim; a second engagement means adapted to releasably engage that sidewall of the tire opposite the first side of the rim and means for moving the second engagement means to a position which is nearer to the first engagement means and thereby exert sufficient pressure to press that sidewall and the bead adjacent thereto to a position where the bead is disengaged from the rim.
