A tool apparatus for applying a large closing force to an object is disclosed. The tool apparatus, capable of improving the efficiency and ease of effort required to crimp nuts onto bolts and to cut materials such as multi-strand cables, bars and the like, comprises first and second jaws, each having first and second portions. Each first portion has a linking end. A mechanism is provided for interconnecting the first and second jaws, and for providing a pivoting point for each of the first and second jaws. A hydraulic cylinder drives a rod linearly along a drive axis from a first position to a second position with a drive force. A scissor mechanism is provided for connecting the rod to the linking end of the first jaw and to the linking end of the second jaw, and for translating and multiplying the drive force to apply an opening force to each of the linking ends, whereby the first portions rotate from their closed position to their open position and the second portions rotate from their open position to their closed position to apply the closing force to the object.
Cette invention concerne un outil servant à appliquer une grande force de fermeture à un objet. L'outil, caractérisé par une efficacité et un gain mécanique accrus au sertissage d'écrous sur des boulons et à la coupe de matériaux tels que câbles à torons multiples, barres et objets analogues, comprend une première et une seconde mâchoires, chacune étant composée de deux pièces, la première comportant une extrémité d'articulation. Les deux mâchoires sont reliées par un mécanisme qui constitue en même temps un point de pivotement des deux mâchoires. Un vérin hydraulique pousse une tige le long d'un axe, d'une première position à une seconde. Un mécanisme à ciseaux reliant cette tige aux extrémités d'articulation de la première et de la seconde mâchoires multiplie la force et déplace son point d'application de manière à écarter lesdites extrémités d'articulation et forcer le pivotement en position ouverte de la première pièce des mâchoires et le pivotement en position fermée de leur seconde pièce, avec pour résultat l'application sur l'objet à sertir ou à couper d'une force multipliée.
