ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An automated machine or robot comprises an arm capable of being moved to a workpiece and having at one end a tool holder for receiving any of several tools for carrying out different operations on the workpiece. A coupling mechanism carried by the arm is capable of actuation to couple and disengage an tool from the tool holder. A stationary tool rack incorporates a plurality of locations for storing the several tools to be connected to the arm. An actuator in the tool rack engages the coupling mechanism carried by the arm when the arm is in the vicinity of the rack to cause coupling or disengagement of the tool holder to or from the respective tools stored in the rack.
