A modular tooling apparatus (10) for performing a metalworking operation on a workpiece (198), having a base (20) comprising an attachment surface (40) having a locating feature (43), a removable insert (60) separably secured to the attachment surface, having a locating feature (63) and a workpiece support feature (76) on a surface thereof, and an extraction/locking device (370) movable between a first position wherein the insert is secured to the attachment surface, whereby the locating feature of the insert associates with the locating feature of the attachment surface, and a second position wherein the insert is at least partially extracted from the attachment surface. The extraction/locking device alternately secures the insert to the base and assists in extracting the insert from the base. The device provides for ease of removal of an insert when the upper portion does not provide convenient surfaces for a technician to grab.
Appareil d'usinage modulaire (10) servant à travailler une pièce métallique (198), constitué d'une base (20) comprenant une surface de fixation (40) dotée d'un dispositif de positionnement (43), d'une pièce amovible (60) pouvant être fixée à la surface de fixation et s'en séparer et comprenant un dispositif de positionnement (63) ainsi qu'un support de pièce (76) sur une surface connexe, et d'un dispositif d'extraction et de verrouillage (370) pouvant passer d'une première position où la pièce amovible est fixée à la surface de fixation, dans laquelle le dispositif de positionnement de la pièce amovible est en contact avec le dispositif de positionnement de la surface de fixation, à une seconde position dans laquelle la pièce amovible est au moins partiellement détachée de la surface de fixation. Le dispositif d'extraction et de verrouillage fixe la pièce amovible à la base ou permet de détacher la pièce amovible de la base. Le dispositif permet de détacher facilement la pièce amovible lorsque sa partie supérieure ne présente pas de surface favorable à la préhension.
