A pop-up type dispenser is provided for paper towels, in which a specially sized and shaped hole (2) in the dispenser top (3) cooperates, with a stack (8) of paper towels housed in the dispenser (1). The towel stack (8) has at least two interfolded webs (10, 11) of perforated absorbent sheet material in which the perforations of one web (either 10 or 11) are not aligned with the perforations of an adjacent web (either 10 or 11) The towels (9) may be withdrawn through the opening (2) one sheet (9a) at a time.
