ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A single weighing pan of a top-loading balance is supported upon a vertically-movable carrier spindle which transmits the weight of the pan and of any load placed thereon to an electro- mechanical transducer; such transducer, as known in the prior art, is caused to generate an electrical quantity which may be represented or displayed as an indication of the magnitude of the force displacing the spindle. A novel force-transmitting arrangement which protects the transducer from damage by shock loads while connecting the weighing pan to the carrier spindle comprises two superposed star-shaped leaf springs, the springs and the spindle together constituting a parallelogram linkage that prevents tilting of the pan under an eccentric load. The spindle is connected to the inner ends of three radial leaf springs of a first resilient member, the outer ends of which are integral with outer ends of radial arms of a second resilient member whose inner arm ends are secured to the weighing pan. Third and fourth resilient members similar respectively to the first and second members underlie these members and are similarly connected, so that an off-axis load placed on the weighing pan causes the pan to stay horizontal until it abuts a rigid body after 2 millimeters of deflection.
