A lubrication system for a railroad locomotive applies a lubricant with great accuracy in computer-controlled, precise quantities behind the last axle of the locomotive such that the lubricant is consumed by the time the entire train has passed under all track, speed, temperature and train size condition. Hydraulic pulse-width modulation (PWM or %PWM) controls the quantity of lubricant delivered. Time is divided into a series of windows (33, 34, 35) each consisting of a few seconds. Lubricant delivered from a pressurized tank (8) through long hoses to a solenoid controlled valve (12) is then metered by the duration within this time window (33, 34, 35) for which the computer computes and opens the valve (12). Compensation is provided for train tonnage and lubricant temperature as well as track curvature and train speed.

Ce système de lubrification destiné à une locomotive sur rails consiste à appliquer de manière très exacte un lubrifiant, en quantités précises régulées par ordinateur, derrière le dernier essieu de la locomotive, de façon que ce lubrifiant ait été entièrement utilisé après passage du train entier, cette régulation s'effectuant en fonction de conditions de voie, de vitesse, de température et de dimension du train. Une modulation de largeur d'impulsion hydraulique (PWM ou PWM%) commande la quantité de lubrifiant distribuée. Le temps est divisé en une série de fenêtres (33, 34, 35) consistant chacune en quelques secondes. Le lubrifiant distribué à partir d'un réservoir sous pression (8), via des longs tuyaux, en direction d'une soupape (12) commandée par un solénoïde, est ensuite mesuré par la durée de cette fenêtre temporelle (33, 34, 35), calculée par l'ordinateur, lequel commande l'ouverture de la soupape (12). Il est prévu de compenser le tonnage du train et la température du lubrifiant de même que les courbes du trajet et la vitesse du train.
