There is provided a pharmaceutical composition suitable for topical administration to an eye, the composition comprising as active agent one or more oxazolidinone antibacterial drugs, for example linezolid, in a concentration effective for treatment and/or prophylaxis of a gram-positive bacterial infection of the eye, and one or more ophthalmically acceptable excipient ingredients that reduce rate of removal of the composition from the eye by lacrimation such that the composition has an effective residence time in the eye of about 2 to about 24 hours. The composition is, for example, an in situ gellable solution, suspension or solution/suspension.
L'invention concerne une composition pharmaceutique destinée à être administrée par voie topique dans l'oeil. Cette composition renferme un agent actif, une ou plusieurs substances thérapeutiques antibactériennes à base d'oxazolidinone, telles que le linézolide, en concentration suffisante pour traiter et/ou prévenir une infection bactérienne à gram positif de l'oeil, et un ou plusieurs excipients ophtalmologiquement acceptables réduisant la vitesse d'élimination de cette composition par larmoiement. Ladite composition présente ainsi une durée de rétention dans l'oeil comprise entre environ 2 et environ 24 heures. Elle peut se présenter sous la forme d'une solution, d'une suspension ou d'une solution/suspension gélifiable in situ.
