A system for measuring the torque on a shaft has two resolvers coupled to the shaft at two spaced locations. The first resolver is excited in a conventional manner. The output coils of the first resolver are connected to what are conventionally the output coils of the second resolver. What is conventionally the excitation coil of the second resolver is coupled to a demodulator which produces a signal proportio- nal to the sine of the difference between the angular position of the shaft at the two resolver locations.
